Special Report | PJM's Solar (Spring)board
Wednesday, May 7, 2025

In our latest Renewable Monthly report for April, looking the movement in PJM’s 12x24 solar profile may make the growth in the resource’s output appear underwhelming at its face.  Average generation at the midday peak climbed 600 MW in April compared to March, to sit at 8.6 GW on average each day at the high.  Then turning our attention to the US Renewables Dashboard which includes PJM’s 12x24 solar generation (see the figure below for a snapshot), the projected growth for May (based on the month-over-month percentage growth in 2024) would have May generation barely rising over April levels.  However, the relatively small change for April disguises a much larger movement, one that would suggest a larger leap in the May generation profile than what we see in the figure.
